Sendik’s Delivers the Gift of Food to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin Food Bank
The holidays will be brighter for the hungry in eastern Wisconsin this season thanks to a very generous donation from the Balistreri owned Sendik’s Food Markets. As a result of a three month partnership, Sendik’s is donating over 90,000 pounds of food and $11,500 to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.
“At Sendik’s, we’re all about service to our customers, we’re pleased that our customers have returned the favor to provide service to the community in terms of food and money,” said Ted Balistreri of Balistreri owned Sendik’s stores.
Since August, Sendik’s and their customers have collected food and money to help feed the hungry in eastern Wisconsin. Here’s a highlight of the programs:
- Sendik’s Real Food Magazine: 100% of proceeds from sale benefitted Feeding America.
- Backpack Buddies: Proceeds from backpack buddies provided a backpack filled with school supplies for needy children in the Milwaukee area.
- Mac & Cheese Promotion: For every box of macaroni and cheese sold, Sendik’s donated one box to Feeding America.
- Sendik’s Food Drive: Customers purchased a $10, $20 or $100 bag of groceries to help feed hungry families.
- Keep the Change for Feeding America: Customers had the opportunity to round up their receipt total to the nearest dollar for Feeding America.
“We’re overwhelmed by the response from Sendik’s and their customers. It’s reassuring to know that there are responsive partners in the community, like Sendik’s, that are making a difference in the lives of hungry people,” said Bonnie Bellehumeur, president of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. “With the economic downturn and rising unemployment, this donation will help us meet the increased need for emergency food relief especially during the holiday season,” Bellehumeur added.
