Milwaukee, WI- America’s Second Harvest of Wisconsin will celebrate the expansion of its Fresh Rescue program on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 11 a.m. at its warehouse located at 1700 W. Fond du Lac Avenue. Thanks to a generous $50,000 gift from The Grainger Foundation, Second Harvest will display the newest member of its fleet, a 28-foot refrigerated truck that will collect and distribute millions of pounds of food to the hungry for years to come. The truck will be used to pick up food at retail stores throughout eastern Wisconsin as part of the Fresh Rescue program. The Fresh Rescue program already generates about 35,000 pounds of perishable product each week, ranging from produce to meat to bakery. Fresh Rescue has the potential to bring in more than one million pounds of valuable food each year, creating less waste, conserving landfill space and reducing disposal costs for retailers.
