Milwaukee, WI- Daybreak Foods and S&R Farms are giving the Easter Bunny something to hop about as two local egg farmers donate more than 300,000 eggs to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin on Thursday, March 25 at 10 a.m. In celebration, the Easter bunny will stop by and two local chefs will prepare omelets for the agencies who work on the front lines of hunger relief.
“Helping neighboring families in need is of the utmost importance to our industry,” said Tony Rehm of Daybreak Foods. “We’re proud to offer our help and support when our community needs it now more than ever."
“In today’s world we frequently hear of the global need that exists and too often it is our own local needs that seem to be overlooked,” said Al Schimpf of S&R Farms. “Our family is proud to participate annually in this program and help meet the critical food needs right here in our local community.”
Nearly 330,000 people in eastern Wisconsin, including 105,000 children rely on food from Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. “We are serving 40 percent more people than four years ago. In this difficult economy, people are losing their jobs and families are losing their homes. They’re choosing between paying their bills and putting food on the table. This generous donation of eggs will put a simple meal packed with protein on the table for hungry children and families,” said Bonnie Bellehumeur, president of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.
For the third year in a row, United Egg Producers and Feeding America are teaming up in the fight against hunger and local egg farmers across America are dropping off truckloads of much needed protein to local food banks just in time for Easter. Beginning in March and leading up to April 4, egg farmers nationwide will be donating more than 11 million eggs to help make sure America’s food banks are well stocked with nutrient-dense eggs.
“United Egg Producers’s members are dedicated to helping their local communities,” said Gene Gregory, president of United Egg Producers. “Our hope is that this donation during the Easter holiday makes a significant difference in the lives of many people who are at risk of hunger.”
