Celebrity Shopping Cart Race Collects $3,187 for Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin

West Allis, Wis. The Klement’s Racing Sausages cheered on local radio DJ’s and television personalities as they raced around Pick ‘n Save to collect food for Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin today.  The Celebrity Shopping Cart Race kicked off the 12th Annual Stuff the Bus food drive.

Feeding America is happy to announce the results of today’s race. Chris McGinness of CBS 58 and Tony Lorino of 99.1 WMYX came in first place with $1154.48 worth of food.  Portia Young of WISN 12 and Kidd O’Shea of 99.1 WMYX took second place with $1103.32 worth of food.  Tami Hughes of Fox 6 and Bonnie Bellehumeur of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin took third place with $469.68 worth of food.  Mike Jacobs of WTMJ4 and Elizabeth Kay of 99.1 WMYX came in fourth with $459.73 worth of food. Each team had 99 seconds to run through the aisles and collect as much food as possible.  The team with the highest receipt total won the race. 

The grand total of $3187.21 is being donated by Roundy’s Supermarkets, Inc. representing our first donation to Stuff the Bus. 

“Thanks to everyone who supported our celebrity shopping cart race today.  Everyone is a winner for supporting hunger relief in our community,” said Bonnie Bellehumeur, president of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.

The Shopping Cart Race is the kickoff to the 12th Annual Stuff the Bus food drive which takes place Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the Pick ‘n Save store located at 11111 W. Greenfield Avenue.  The one day marathon food drive begins at 5 a.m. and wraps up at 6 p.m.  This year we hope to collect 200,000 pounds of food.  Please bring your nonperishable food items to help feed the hungry in Wisconsin this holiday season.  The most needed food items include canned fruits and vegetables, canned soups, rice, beans, tuna, cereal, peanut butter and jelly.  We are also accepting frozen turkeys.  Monetary donations will also be accepted.  For every $1 donated, we can provide five meals.  You can also make an online contribution to Stuff the Bus at www.feedingamericawi.org.  Just click on the Stuff the Bus icon.
