West Allis, Wis. – Before you stuff the turkey this Thanksgiving, help Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin Stuff the Bus.  The 12th annual one-day food drive kicks off at 5 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009 and will conclude at 6 p.m.  Bring your non-perishable food items including canned meat, canned fruits and vegetables, canned soup and chili, peanut butter, pasta, rice, macaroni and cheese and pancake mix to the Pick ’n Save store at 111th and Greenfield in West Allis and help fill Milwaukee County transit buses with food for the needy this holiday season.  Our goal this year is 200,000 meals.  Monetary donations and frozen turkeys will also be accepted.  For every $1 donation, Feeding America can provide five meals. “With the economic downturn and rising unemployment, demand for emergency food assistance is up 22%,” said Bonnie J. Bellehumeur, president of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.  “Every donation counts,” Bellehumeur added.

The Roundy’s Foundation will donate a truckload of canned soup and $10,000 in honor of Stuff the Bus.  The presentation will take place at 8:30 a.m.   Vivian King, Director of Public Affairs for Roundy’s Supermarkets, Inc. and Connie Jones, Roundy’s Foundation administrator will present the soup and check at Stuff the Bus.  The truck will then be delivered to Feeding America where it will be unloaded.

Those who can’t make it out to the store can also make a donation online at www.991wmyx.com, just click on the Stuff the Bus icon.  Please join in the giving spirit of the holiday and help those who are less fortunate.
