After another great year, the PB&J Challenge has drawn to a close. Thank you to all of the 75  schools that particpated! 11 tons of peanut butter and jelly were collected to be distributed to families in need.

Congratulations to our winning schools!

Elementary Schools:

  • Most PB&J collected: 1,776 pounds - St. Joseph Catholic Academy (Lower Campus), Kenosha
  • Most PB&J per student: 7.6 pounds per student (451 lbs total) - St. Patrick Parish School, Elkhorn

Middle Schools
  • Most PB&J collected: 5,128 pounds - Whitefish Bay Middle School, Whitefish Bay
  • Most PB&J per student: 2.5 pounds per student (1,059 lbs total) - Steffen Middle School, Mequon
Students from the four winning schools came to the food bank on November 10 to help package the peanut butter and jelly that was collected during October. Nate, an eighth grade student council member at Steffen Middle School, said his school got students to participate by rewarding the two winning homerooms with the most peanut butter and jelly collected. The two homerooms received a pizza party and a kickball game. Josh, also and eighth grader at Steffen, revealed how student council got the school involved; "We did a morning chant 'peanut butter peanut butter jelly jelly" over and over on the morning annoucements every day so you would remember it when you went to the store," said Josh. The tactic worked for these middle schoolers who collected 1,059 pounds of peanut butter and jelly.

When asked, the students said it was fun to help out and find new ways to get others involved. Megan, an eighth grader at St. Patrick's Parish in Elkhorn, said, "It was a lot of fun and it felt really good to help people who need it." She said the new principal got St. Patrick's involved for its first challenge this year and the seventh graders want to do it again next year.

From everyone at Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, thank you for all of your hard work.
