Traditional Food Drive
A food drive is an easy way to get involved in hunger relief efforts. Anyone can conduct a food drive - businesses, work groups, schools, churches, professional and community organizations. Here are some tips to help you get started with your food drive.
How to Organize a Food Drive
First things First: Decide the dates of your food drive. It’s a good idea to elect a point person from your organization who will be the one to contact Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin to inform us of your food drive.
Set a Goal: Set a goal for your food drive (number of cans, number of items, number of pounds) before you begin collecting food. This will give your group something to work toward.
Contact Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin: You can register your food drive with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin by contacting the Food Resource Department at 414-931-7400 or send us an e-mail with the details of your food drive. We can arrange for delivery of food barrels at that time.
Advertising and Marketing: Advertise your food drive by making sure that people know the dates of the food drive and why your organization is holding a food drive. Post flyers to create awareness internally. You may also want to involve the media by sending a press release or advertising in the local newspaper or on the radio.
Food Drive Rules
- Collect only non-perishable food items. Click here for a list of our preferred food items.
- NO glass - Please! Glass can chip and break in barrels.
- DO NOT mix non-food items with food, even if it is sealed up. The Health Department requires us to throw away the entire box or barrel of food if there are non-food items in the container.
Last but not least… HAVE LOTS OF FUN!!!! Click here or call us at 414-931-7400 for a list of ideas and projects for group food drives.
