Before you stuff the turkey this Thanksgiving, help Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin Stuff the Bus. The 14th annual one-day food drive kicks off at 5 a.m. Wednesday, November, 23, 2011 and it will conclude at 6 p.m. Kidd and Elizabeth from 99.1 The Mix will broadcast live and encourage listeners to donate nonperishable food items including canned meat, canned fruits and vegetables, canned soup and chili, peanut butter, pasta, rice, macaroni and cheese and pancake mix to help fill Milwaukee County transit buses with food for the needy this holiday season.
Our goal this year is 200,000 pounds of food. Monetary donations and frozen turkeys will also be accepted. For every $1 donation, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin can provide five meals. "With the economic downturn and rising unemployment, demand for emergency food assistance is up 21% over the last two years," said Bonnie J. Bellehumeur, president of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. "Every donation counts," said Belleumeur.
Those who can't make it out to the store can also make a donation online at www.991themix.com, just click on the Stuff the Bus icon. Please join in giving holiday spirit and help those who are less fortunate.
